The Calgary Flames nearly had their playoff hopes all but extinguished by a controversial no-goal call Tuesday night.
The Flames trailed the Anaheim Ducks by one goal early in the third period in Game 3 of their Stanley Cup Playoff series when forward Sam Bennett slid a puck on net. The puck was about to cross the goal line, but Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen made a pad save just in time.

It’s nearly impossible to tell, but the puck does appear to barely cross the line for a split second. After reviewing the play, however, referees decided to uphold the original no-goal call.

But justice would be swift for Calgary, and it came off the stick of rookie sensation Johnny Gaudreau, who tied the score with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

Flames forward Mikael Backlund completed the comeback, scoring less than five minutes into overtime to give Calgary a 4-3 win. The Flames now trail the Ducks 2-1 in the series with a chance to even things Friday night in Calgary.
