New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez became the 29th member of Major League Baseball’s 3,000-hit club Friday night at Yankee Stadium, and he did it in style.
A-Rod launched a home run off Detroit Tigers starter Justin Verlander in the first inning to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Rodriguez is the third player to collect his 3,000th hit on a homer, joining Wade Boggs and former Yankees teammate Derek Jeter. A-Rod also joined Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as the only players in baseball history to tally 600-plus homers and at least 3,000 hits.
