NFL Files Motion For Expedited Briefing Schedule In Tom Brady Appeal

A “very influential person in the NFL” appears to have been very wrong.

The NFL filed a motion for an expedited briefing schedule for their appeal in the Tom Brady case Friday, but a resolution isn’t expected until early next year. The league is appealing U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman’s decision to vacate the New England Patriots quarterback’s four-game suspension in the Deflategate scandal.

The NFL and NFL Players Association agreed to the expedited schedule in part because it will “ensure that the parties have the opportunity, in advance of the 2016 regular season, to know Mr. Brady’s status and plan accordingly.”

Oral arguments currently are scheduled for January 2016, and a decision likely would be made months later. The NFL acknowledged Friday it’s “highly unlikely” the appeal will be decided during the 2015 season.
