FOXBORO, Mass. — The diagnosis looked grim after Matthew Slater left the New England Patriots’ 34-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Slater had to be assisted off the field by Patriots teammates, then he was carted to the X-ray room past the media in the halls of Lucas Oil Stadium after the game. Slater walked through the Patriots’ locker room Tuesday, however, without a noticeable limp or any brace on his leg.

Slater declined speaking to the media, which is unusual for the special teams captain, but it was a positive sign that he was spotted at all.

The Patriots have been ravaged by injuries recently. They placed starting left tackle Nate Solder and cornerback Tarell Brown on injured reserve last week, and Slater, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon and defensive end Jabaal Sheard suffered ailments against the Colts. Cannon and Sheard’s injuries reportedly are “considered minor.”
