Marcus Smart went toe-to-toe with one of the best players in the NBA and came out on top. And he’s not about to apologize for doing so.
The Boston Celtics point guard scored a career-high 26 points in Sunday’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder while playing solid defense on four-time All-Star Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook apparently wasn’t too impressed with Smart’s performance, though, reminding a reporter not to “get it twisted” about where both players stand in the NBA food chain.
Smart was asked to address Westbrook’s comments before Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets, and he didn’t back down.

More Smart on Westbrook: "That's something he said. That's how he feels. We feel the way we feel. And we came out with the victory."

Marcus Smart on Russell Westbrook comments/matchup. "I was just playing ball. So if I got under his skin, that’s on him."

Smart also made sure to mention that Westbrook is a great player, per Mass Live’s Jay King. Still, it’s good to see the 21-year-old stand his ground, as he certainly doesn’t have to make any excuses for bringing his A-game against one of the NBA’s elite offensive players.
