Adam Bogdan accepted the blame for the opener in Liverpool’s 3-0 reversalĀ at Watford on Sunday and pledged the players will work hard to eradicate such mistakes moving forward.
The Hungarian mishandled a corner in the third minute of the Premier League contest, allowing Nathan Ake to force in a goal that inspired the home side.
Odion Ighalo doubled their advantage soon after as he sped onto an over-the-top pass, saw off Martin Skrtel and found the net with a low finish from a tight angle.
And it was the same striker who endedĀ any hopes of a comeback by Jürgen Kloppās team in the 85th minute by heading his second and Watfordās third past Bogdan.
The goalkeeper later told Liverpoolfc.com: āItās not easy to recover after a goal like that in the first couple of minutes. Itās never going to be easy.
āOf course it hit us and Watford managed to score another goal, which was another blow. We tried to come back into the game and I think we gave everything, although I donāt think we played very well. But we tried. Watford were really good but we — and myself — gave them a headstart.
āI dropped the ball, of course. Thereās a mistake there. After that, I felt my hand was on the ball and I was going to bring it out.
āObviously he knocked it out of my hand — but we are talking about split-seconds. Through the bodies, of course itās hard to see. Iām not blaming anybody but myself to drop the first ball.ā
