Report: Cowboys’ Randy Gregory Suspended Four Games For Failed Drug Tests

A failed drug test hurt Randy Gregory’s stock in the run-up to the 2015 NFL Draft, and substance abuse has reared its ugly head in his career once again.

The NFL has suspended Gregory for for the first four games of the 2016 season, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. The Dallas Cowboys defensive end reportedly violated the NFL’s substance-abuse policy and now will miss the four games and the pay that accompanies them.

Gregory, 23, played sparingly in his rookie season, largely due to a high ankle sprain he suffered early . He made 11 tackles and zero sacks in 12 games.

Citing the NFL’s drug policy, CBS Dallas-Forth Worth’s Mike Fisher reports Gregory must have failed at least four drug tests since last February, starting with last year’s NFL combine.

“The first offense took place at the NFL Combine, forcing him into the drug program, a second positive test resulted in a two game fine, a third was a four game fine,” Fisher wrote.” The latest offense results in a four game suspension.”

Gregory’s setback only will fuel criticism of the Cowboys’ decision to draft him last year in the second round (No. 60 overall), having known about his substance-abuse issues during his college years.
