Virginia’s Tony Bennett Collapses On Sideline In NCAA Tournament Game (Videos)

The Virginia basketball team endured a scary moment in its NCAA Tournament opener on Thursday.

The No. 1 seed Cavaliers were up big on No. 16 seed Hampton late in the first half when head coach Tony Bennett collapsed on the sideline near his own bench.

Team doctors immediately surrounded the 46-year-old head coach and checked his pulse before taking him to the locker room with 5.3 seconds left in the first half. According to Bennett himself, he suffered from a bit of dehydration and may have even lost consciousness momentarily.

“I think I was just crouched down, was a little dehydrated, got up and blacked out a little bit,” Bennett said in his sideline interview before the start of the second half, via Business Insider. “But I am OK.”

Bennett returned to the bench in the second half, so hopefully this is just a one-time thing.
