As the debateĀ over the Washington Redskins’ nickname has intensified over the last few years, a number of media outlets have made it a point to avoid using it altogether.
On Thursday night, one of the Skins’ oldest rivals did the same.
In a tweet announcing their schedule for the 2016 season, the New York Giants referred to their NFC East foes only as “Washington” despite using the nickname ofĀ each of their other 15 opponents.

Why? Who knows. The folks over at Deadspin reached out the Giants for an explanation and didn’t really receive one. (You can read that exchange here.) It is interesting, though, that a photo the team tweeted a half-hour earlierĀ did useĀ the “Redskins” nickname.
