Some athletes embrace far more than just their uniforms when they spend time in certain places.
Take the 2013 Boston Red Sox, for instance. The city came together that year following the Boston Marathon bombing, and the Red Sox were front and center, serving as a symbol of hope and giving residents something to rally behind during a difficult period.
The Red Sox and the popular “Boston Strong” phrase truly went hand in hand. And even though a lot of players from that World Series-winning team since have moved on to new destinations, the mutual affection between them and Boston remains intact.
For proof, one only needed to check Twitter on Monday morning before the 2016 Boston Marathon. A few former Red Sox showed love for Boston as the city celebrated Patriots’ Day.
Thinking about my American League family as they gear up for the 120th running of the marathon on this special day. #NVRQT #PatriotsDay
