BOSTON — The Red Sox announced a roster move ahead of Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees.
The club recalled infielder Marco Hernandez from Triple-A Pawtucket and optioned relief pitcher Pat Light down to the PawSox as a result. The hard-throwing Light appeared in just one game for the Red Sox, pitching one inning and giving up two earned runs on two hits and one walk in his Major League Baseball debut on April 26.
The move isn’t entirely surprising, as the Red Sox had been playing with just three bench players and needed a fourth. Hernandez performed well in his Red Sox debut on April 17, going 1-for-2 with a run, a walk and a stolen base. He also provides Boston with another left-handed bat.
