Go Behind The Scenes Of Maverick Schutte’s Hangout With David Ortiz, Red Sox

The sports world can be pretty annoying or downright depressing at times, and then stories like Maverick Schutte’s come along and your faith is restored, at least for the time being.

The 6-year-old Boston Red Sox superfan who’s had countless heart issues made his pilgrimage to Fenway Park, where he was able to meet his idol, designated hitter David Ortiz, earlier this week. Just two weeks ago, Ortiz promised — and delivered — by hitting a home run for Maverick in a game against the New York Yankees.

With the help of former Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar, Maverick and his family made it out to Fenway this week. The little guy got to throw out the first pitch and also collected an impressive haul of memorabilia, including a bat from Ortiz himself.

“MLB Tonight” detailed Maverick’s entire story and went behind the scenes for his trip to Boston in a touching video that you can see below.
