Joe Thornton and David Backes have devised a novel way of avoiding fisticuffs.
The two players tugged each others’ beards Sunday during Game 1 of the Western Conference finals between Thornton’s San Jose Sharks and Backes’ St. Louis Blues. The NHL’s Twitter account captured the moment the forwards comically diffused a potentially violent situation.
