Jon Lester Again Executes Stuck-Ball-In-Glove Throw To Anthony Rizzo

Jon Lester doesn’t need to learn new tricks as he already has plenty in the bag.

The Chicago Cubs pitcher used a novel putout technique Wednesday when he tossed his baseball-clutching glove to first baseman Anthony Rizzo, ending Francisco Cervelli’s bid for a base hit. Lester’s glove just wouldn’t let go of Cervelli’s routine grounder, but the veteran hurler knew exactly what to do.

Lester used the same method in April 2015 to put out Clint Barmes in a game against the San Diego Padres.

It worked then, so it only makes sense Lester would return to the old glove-plus-ball trick.

Do the Cubs practice this?
