Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce is having a very good season offensively, and one team reportedly interested in acquiring him before Monday’s non-waiver MLB trade deadline is the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners are 4 1/2 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the second American League wild-card playoff spot, and they sit six games behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West race.
The postseason remains a realistic target for Seattle, and its front office should be bold. The franchise hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2001 — when it won an AL-record 116 games.
Bruce is batting .271 with 25 home runs and an NL-leading 79 RBI this season. He has one more season left on his contract in the form of a team option.
