Dirk Nowitzki isn’t ready to bid adieu to the Lone Star State just yet.
Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms on a two-year, $40 million contract, ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reported Tuesday morning, citing league sources.

Nowitzki has spent all 18 of his NBA seasons with the Mavericks, leading the franchise to its only championship in 2011 and climbing to sixth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. He led the Mavs in scoring this past season, averaging 20.4 points per game as a 37-year-old.
If Nowitzki does indeed re-sign, he’ll be working with a revamped supporting cast next season, as Dallas over the weekend reportedly worked out agreements to acquire forward Harrison Barnes (via free agency) and center Andrew Bogut (via trade). Barnes and Bogut both were part of the Golden State Warriors team that won the NBA title in 2015 and lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the most recent NBA Finals.
The Mavericks lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the first round of the 2016 playoffs. They haven’t won a postseason series since winning it all in 2011.
