It was believed L.A. was in the market for both a starting pitcher and an outfielder, and acquiring Hill and Reddick could provide the Dodgers with a shot in the arm in both areas.
Hill, who’s slated to become a free agent after this season, is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA and 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings through 14 starts. The 36-year-old was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 20) over the weekend for a blister on his left middle finger, but he should boost Los Angeles’ rotation upon his return.
Reddick, who’s also set to hit the open market this winter, is batting .296 with eight home runs, 28 RBI and an .816 OPS in 272 plate appearances over 68 games. The 29-year-old hit a career-high 32 homers in 2012. He launched 20 homers last season.
The focus now shifts to Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who has been the subject of trade rumors of late amid a disappointing season.
The #Dodgers have maintained they will trade Puig only if they get another outfielder. Reddick is that outfielder.
