Republican senator from Texas and failed presidential candidate Ted Cruz has become the latest politician to weigh in on the controversy surrounding athletes who have been protesting the “Star-Spangled Banner” in recent weeks.
There were a number of protests throughout the NFL on Sunday, including four Miami Dolphins players who knelt during the national anthem.
Cruz doesn’t want people to buy jerseys, or any other products of the athletes who are protesting.
Here's a peaceful protest: never buy another shoe, shirt, or jersey of rich spoiled athletes who dishonor our flag. https://t.co/GrGPYX8HCh

To all the athletes who have made millions in America's freedom: stop insulting our flag, our nation, our heroes. https://t.co/GrGPYX8HCh

The last time we heard Cruz talk about a sports-related topic, he called a basketball hoop a “ring” while re-creating a scene from the classic movie “Hoosiers” during an Indiana campaign event.
