The Boston Bruins appeared to be headed for a blowout loss after allowing the first three goals in Wednesday night’s road game against the Washington Capitals.
But the B’s mounted an impressive comeback with two late second-period goals and another in the third to force overtime. That’s where the comeback stopped for Boston, as Washington won 4-3 in overtime to win its seventh straight game — and fourth straight at home — versus the B’s.

FORMER PLAYOFF MVP STRIKES EARLY AND OFTEN
The Caps needed just 23 seconds to open the scoring. Justin Williams tipped a pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov that barely fluttered past B’s goalie Tuukka Rask. Alex Ovechkin also picked up an assist.

Williams scored another in the first period when he pounced on a loose puck in front of the net and beat Rask. The puck got caught under the right side of the net, so there was a little delay in the goal being awarded, but replay confirmed it was a good goal. Kuznetsov picked up his second assist of the night.

SECOND-PERIOD SURGE
The Bruins showed some life in the second period by outshooting the Capitals 10-2 in the frame, and two of those shots found the back of the net.
Dominic Moore got it started at 16:35 of the period by batting home a loose puck in the crease to put the B’s on the board. It was his seventh goal of the campaign, one more than he had all of last season for the New York Rangers.

About two minutes later, David Pastrnak continued his red-hot scoring pace with his 16th goal of the season. The 20-year-old winger showed impressive strength to win the puck before racing into the offensive zone and beating Caps goalie Braden Holtby with a backhand shot. Pastrnak’s 16 goals are one behind league leaders Sidney Crosby and Patrik Laine.

MILLER TIME
Bruins defenseman Colin Miller tied the score 3-3 with his second goal of the season at the 8:19 mark of the third period.

The overtime loss does extend Boston’s point streak to six games (4-0-2), though.
