Punters are not supposed to take the kind of punishment Seattle Seahawks punter Jon Ryan took in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Ryan took off on a fake punt and had acres of open space ahead of him. Near the end of Ryan’s run, he began to lose control of the ball, and right as he maintained a firm grip again he was crushed by a Rams player.

It was ruled a fumble and the Rams recovered, but the play was reviewed and Seattle maintained possession of the football.
Ryan immediately was placed into the concussion protocol.
At least he has the following stat to be proud of.
