Alex Cora Has Hilarious Reason Why He Isn’t In 2007 Red Sox Celebration Photos

New Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora certainly has a history with the team, having won a World Series title with them in 2007.

But if you look at the celebration following the final out, you’ll notice that Cora is nowhere to be found for a good portion of time.

And that’s for a pretty good reason.

When closer Jonathan Papelbon recorded the final out, all of the Red Sox came pouring out of the dugout and hopping over the railing in a mad dash to the mound. Cora was among them, and so was teammate Tim Wakefield. The knuckleballer, however, took a tumble when he tried to jump over the railing.

“He fell down headfirst, so I stopped and pulled him up, but by that time everybody was there (celebrating),” Cora told The Boston Globe’s Stan Grossfeld. “I wasn’t there. That’s why I’m not in the pictures.

“It probably cost me a lot of money there,” he added. “You have to be in those pictures. You have to sign them and you make money on that.”

Hey, that’s a pretty admirable level of selflessness.

Of course, Cora still ultimately was involved in the celebrations, he just didn’t immediately join the initial scrum that television cameras caught.
