Pedro Martinez Weighs In On Joe Kelly’s Handling Of Red Sox-Yankees Brawl

Things got a little out of hand at Fenway Park on Wednesday night during the New York Yankees’ 10-7 win over the Boston Red Sox.

The benches cleared not once, but twice, with the second time resulting in a bench-clearing brawl between the old rivals after Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly hit Yankees designated hitter Tyler Austin in the ribs with a fastball.

Austin was at the center of the first bench-clearing incident when he slid questionably into second base with his cleats up, and Red Sox shortstop Brock Holt took exception to it.

After the brawl, Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez weighed in on the fracas, noting that Kelly did the right thing if he indeed was protecting his teammate.

Kelly, Austin, Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle and third base coach Phil Nevin all were ejected after the brawl.
