The Boston Red Sox and Blue Jays are in the market for the same player, but Toronto’s might pivot to its Plan B.
That’s what John Schneider’s done throughout the offseason after missing out on top stars like Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes. The Blue Jays did break through after reportedly signing Anthony Santander to a big deal, and they might not be done.
Toronto reportedly is among multiple teams — including the Red Sox — in the market for Alex Bregman. However, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman threw cold water on the idea Wednesday and believed the Jays were “more in” on Pete Alonso than Bregman.
That came on the same day he reported Boston was the “most likely” team to sign the two-time World Series champion. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Tuesday also reported that the Jays were interested in Alonso and Jurickson Profar.
The Blue Jays signing Alonso likely would shift Vladimir Gurrero Jr. to third base since Santander is would ideally be their designated hitter. Guerrero might be OK with that idea if more talent is adding to Toronto, which could affect his potential free agency in 2026.

For the Red Sox, it would mean the Detriot Tigers stand in the way as another suitor for Bregman. With spring training less than a month away, a move could be made on a big name free agent.
