The Boston Bruins couldn’t stop the offensive outburst from the Buffalo Sabres in a 7-2 blowout at KeyBank Center on Tuesday night.
The Black and Gold got out to a 1-0 lead on Mason Lohrei’s third goal of the season in the first period, but Tage Thompson scored less than a minute later to knot the game 1-1 heading into the second period.
The second and third periods were all Buffalo.
Thompson and JJ Peterka both recorded hat tricks for the Sabres, the first time two Buffalo players tallied three goals each since 2008.
Brad Marchand scored a power-play goal midway through the third period to pull the Bruins within two, but once again, the Sabres answered — this time 30 seconds later to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Bruins didn’t have an answer for Buffalo and fell to 25-21-6 on the season. However, they still hold a wild card spot — at the moment.
