The Red Sox’s two biggest offseason additions made their Boston spring training debuts Sunday, and both lived up to the hype.

Garrett Crochet started the Red Sox’s exhibition matchup with the Blue Jays and showcased his game-changing stuff, most notably in the first inning when he struck out the side. Alex Bregman, meanwhile, went 3-for-3 against Toronto with a double and two-run home run in his first game in Fort Myers, Fla.

Bregman, who played third base Sunday, had a front-row seat to Crochet’s impressive 1 2/3 innings of work. The two-time World Series champion after the game relayed what he saw from the star left-hander.

“(He) looked great,” Bregman told reporters, per MLB.com “Punched out the side in the first. His stuff is electric. Just in facing him over the past few years, he’s been fun to watch and difficult to face. Glad I’m on his team.”

Alex Cora was similarly pleased with Crochet’s first February outing, as the Red Sox manager has the utmost confidence in what the southpaw brings to the hill. Crochet, meanwhile, is focused on keeping things simple as Boston builds up for Opening Day in late March.
