Bregman's production at Fenway Park has gained a lot of headlines
Have you heard about Alex Bregman’s career production at Fenway Park? Unless you’ve been living under a rock these last few weeks, chances are that’s a yes.
Bregman has had historic success at America’s Most Beloved Ballpark. Among players with at least 75 plate appearances, Bregman’s OPS (1.240) is the highest ever while his slugging percentage (.750) and OBP (.490) rank second at Fenway. He recorded seven home runs and nine doubles for 15 RBIs when the Houston Astros traveled to Boston (21 games).
It made for a popular narrative during free agency, and ever since Bregman agreed to join the Red Sox last week. Bregman signed a three-year deal reportedly worth $120 million.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora, however, wanted to offer an important reminder.
“He can actually hit in other ballparks, too,” Cora joked with reporters in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday, as seen on NESN. “He’s proved it.”
Sure has.
Bregman is a two-time World Series champion, two-time MLB All-Star and Silver Slugger winner. While he has more plate appearances at Fenway, Bregman actually has a better OPS and average in Philadelphia (1.362 OPS in 19 plate appearances) and better OPS and slugging percentage in Pittsburgh (1.255 OPS in 28 plate appearances). His production in Colorado, Milwaukee, Chicago and Texas is nothing to scoff at either.
Entering his 10th season, the 30-year-old infielder has a .848 OPS and .272 average. Those numbers might see an uptick with his right-handed bat surely to benefit from the Green Monster.
“Him hitting at Fenway 81 times-plus is going to be exciting,” Cora said.
As are the other 81 games with Bregman in the lineup.
