Jeremy Swayman was a member of the Team USA squad in the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, but the Bruins goaltender never saw a single minute of playing time.
The Boston netminder suited up for one game at TD Garden but sat on the familiar bench as the backup to Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger. Winnipeg Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck earned the night off after winning the first two games for the Americans and allowing just one goal in each tilt.
Despite not facing a single shot in game action, Swayman enjoyed every moment with his teammates in Montreal and Boston.
“I was fortunate to play with some of the best players in the world for two weeks,” Swayman said after the Bruins’ overtime loss to the Ducks, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “That helped a lot. I thought that game flow was good, just being able to watch high-level hockey for those two weeks and be a part of it helped me a lot.”
Swayman added: “I worked alongside some of the world’s best hockey players. I think you can take a lot from that, and that’s exactly what I did. I was asking questions, talking to guys. They were awesome, and they were the same; they led by example.

“When you’re just watching and know how hard they work and how they get success in this league, it’s pretty fun to be a part of. So, I took a ton, and I think it’s going to help a lot. … The preparation work that they did and how they prepared themselves to play at this level and be able to stop pucks. Out of the preparation, their practice habits and everything they did off the ice, just preparing their body to go to battle. That was something I was really excited to be a part of and took a lot from.”
