Ex-Yankees All-Star Starter Makes Insane Claim Before 2025 Season

This is a tough take to defend

The Dodgers made quick work of the Yankees in the 2024 World Series where they needed only five games to grab the title of kings of Major League Baseball.

Still, one player involved in that series still isn’t convinced the best team came out on top in last year’s Fall Classic.

Nestor Cortes, who appeared in two of New York’s five games against Los Angeles last October, believes the Bronx Bombers were better than the reigning champs, who hoisted the Commissioner’s Trophy after posting MLB’s best 2024 regular-season record.

“They can talk whatever they want to talk, but we win Game 1 — which we should have — we lost 2 and 3, we win Game 4 and we should have won Game 5. Then we go back to LA up 3 to 2,” Cortes recently told reporters, per The Athletic.

“So people can say it slipped away from us, people can say we made a lot of mistakes, which we did. But at the end of the day, we were the better team. I see it that way, and I’m sure everybody in that clubhouse sees it that way.”

That’s a tough argument for Cortes to make, to say the least. Three of the Dodgers’ World Series wins were by two runs or less, but the Yankees routinely folded in high-pressure spots where the game hung in the balance. That’s not the mark of a true championship team.

LA was a deserving champion, while New York arguably was exposed for taking advantage of a weak American League in 2024. The Yankees have a good chance to bounce back this year, but Cortes will be watching from afar in Milwaukee.
