Red Sox manager Alex Cora and Chris Sale maintain a close relationship — a fact made evident this offseason.
When Boston acquired Garrett Crochet in a blockbuster deal with the Chicago White Sox, the Sale parallels were clear to see. Cora played into the narrative when he told reporters, “He looks like Chris Sale, but stronger.”
The Atlanta Braves ace saw the comment and immediately texted Cora a GIF from the “Little Giants” of a skinny kid flexing.
“I saw that and I laughed out loud,” Sale said on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast, per Audacy. “I wrote, ‘This is me in the mirror after what you said about me and Crochet.'”
Sale met Crochet at last year’s MLB All-Star Game and admitted to Rob Bradford he didn’t have much advice for the budding Red Sox ace. The trade parallels will keep the two pitchers connected and provide high expectations for Crochet. But Sale, along with top Boston brass, are confident that the 25-year-old will meet them.
