The Red Sox knew they were adding a great leader when they signed Alex Bregman, and the two-time World Series champion hasn’t wasted any time living up to that expectation.
Bregman is eager to help Boston usher in the new era of the organization. The star infielder’s spring training locker is set up right next to the Red Sox’s top prospects’, and the 30-year-old already has gone out of his way to spend more time with those up-and-comers.
Those instances weren’t the result of Bregman doing favors for the franchise either. The two-time All-Star made it clear to the organization that he wanted to be involved with those future stars.
“He was very vocal about it when we met with him. He wanted to know (about them),” Alex Cora told reporters Monday, per MLB.com. “He not only asked about the position players, he asked about where we were pitching-wise, and how we see it in the future. Very smart questions from a very smart (guy). And I’m happy that he’s doing everything possible. And the thing is that this is not fake. He’s doing this because this is who he is. I love the fact that he does that.”
Bregman making himself available and accessible isn’t going unnoticed nor underappreciated by the Red Sox’s top prospects. Marcelo Mayer clearly valued his time with Bregman on Monday when the latter joined the road trip for the Red Sox’s spring training matchup with the Baltimore Orioles.

All told, Bregman is poised to help Boston this season in many more ways than one.
