As Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators prepare to face off Tuesday night at TD Garden, much of the conversation will be centered around the loss of 27-year-old forward Trent Frederic, who was traded to the Edmonton Oilers earlier in the day. As the NHL trade deadline approaches, it is interesting to look at the Predators’ acquisitions from this past offseason.
Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei were all acquired by Predators general manager Barry Trotz in the offseason, but none of them have lived up to expectations. Stamkos, the former Tampa Bay Lightning captain, has only scored 33 points in 60 games this season and has not registered a point since Jan. 23. Marchessault has 18 goals and 45 points this season compared to 42 goals and 69 points last season. Brady Skjei has 21 points as opposed to 47 last year.
The Bruins have the opportunity here to take advantage of the mismatches in the Predators’ lineup to earn two desperately needed points.
