Before the start of the 2025 season, NESN.com is evaluating several noteworthy prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization, using insight and analysis from industry experts to gauge each player’s outlook for the upcoming campaign. Next up: Miguel Bleis.
The Red Sox revamped their farm system over the last five years with elite position players. The top prospects are ready to graduate, and it’s almost time for a new wave to emerge.
There’s definitely talent on the way. Most of those next-tier players still need significant minor-league development time and résumé refinement, though.
And that includes Red Sox outfield prospect Miguel Bleis.
The 21-year-old just finished his first full season back from injury. His flashes were great. Consistency is the next step.

Here’s how Bleis got here.
Background
Bleis joined the Red Sox in early 2021 out of the international pool. He quickly got to work in the Dominican Summer League and made his greatest introduction to the system in 2022.
Bleis hit .301 with an .896 OPS across 40 games in rookie ball before a shoulder injury ended his 2022 season and paused his development. He made his way back and ultimately reached High-A Greenville in 2024.
Bleis played exceptional defense in 2024 but hit just .191 with a .584 OPS in 52 games (234 plate appearances) with Salem. That has to improve in 2025, but there’s plenty to assess for the talented Red Sox prospect.

Scouting Report
Bleis can make all the standout plays with his range, speed and arm in the outfield. He’s a pure athlete that wowed with several plays since joining the Red Sox system.
“There’s probably nobody in the system that’s quite as athletically gifted or tooled up as Bleis is,” Baseball America’s Geoff Pontes told NESN.com.
“We definitely saw flashes,” Red Sox senior director of player development Brian Abraham told NESN.com. “Good mechanical adjustments to hit the ball in the air more and do more damage.”
Abraham appreciated the flashes from Bleis’ bat and the quality of his glove in the outfield. But Bleis needs to make far more consistent contact — or what Pontes described as “barrel accuracy” at the plate to improve his “hitting aptitude.” His pitch selection and damage at the plate will make or break his development for the Red Sox.

“His swing decisions, he’s working very hard in the cages,” Salem Red Sox manager Ozzie Chavez told NESN.com.
Most-likely outcome: Defense-first platoon player.
Bleis can find playing time in the big leagues with his defense. The Red Sox have a decision to make about his role based on the quality of his offensive improvements.
Best-case scenario: Glove-first starter.

Bleis can pave his way to a starting job with better contact, potentially giving the Red Sox an impact right-handed hitter.
Fenway forecast
The Red Sox are set in the outfield, currently with an abundance of options, but Bleis could enter spring training in 2027 with a roster spot to win.
“Not a player you want to totally write off,” Pontes said. “He’s still pretty young. He’s dealt with injuries, as well. It’s interesting for him in 2025. It’s a big opportunity for him to bounce back.”
SoxProspects.com ranking: No. 6
Bleis needs to make more contact at the plate, but he can challenge for a higher spot on the list with a resurgent 2025 campaign.
