NHL Trade Deadline Live Blog: Tracking Rumors, Deals Across League

The NHL trade deadline is almost here. Follow all of the latest news and rumors in the live blog tracker below.

3:55 p.m.: Catching up on another reported Bruins trade. Boston has reportedly swung a deal with Buffalo to acquire Henri Jokiharju. The Finnish defenseman will help fill the void left by the Brandon Carlo trade.

3:48 p.m.: The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli has the details on the reported Brandon Carlo trade, and it’s a three-team whopper that also includes the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Per Seravalli:

Toronto acquires: Brandon Carlo
Boston acquires: Toronto first-round pick (year unknown), Fraser Minten
Pittsburgh acquires: Conor Timmins, Connor Dewar

Seravalli also noted there’s salary retention, which is probably why the Penguins are involved.

3:33 p.m.: Still waiting on returns for the reported deals for Brad Marchand and Brandon Carlo, but one NHL insider has at least part of the deal for the latter. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins are getting 20-year-old Fraser Minten as part of the deal.

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

The 22-year-old second-round pick has two goals and two assists in 19 career NHL games, and he has posted 6-7-13 totals in 26 games with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL this season.

3:20 p.m.: So, the trade deadline has technically come and gone, but the blockbuster of the day just went down.

The Bruins are reportedly trading Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers, a move that came down moments after the 3 p.m. deadline passed. We’re still waiting to hear more on the return.

The Bruins weren’t done there. They also reportedly traded defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the buzzer.

2:25 p.m.: Getting caught up on a big one coming out of Boston, as the Bruins are reportedly trading Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche.

3 p.m.: Technically, the trade deadline is here, but according to some reports, there are some significant moves still being squared away and we could hear more on that very soon.

1:34 p.m.: With his extension reportedly in place with Dallas, more details of what it will take to get the trade done are starting to roll in. According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the return going from the Stars to the Hurricanes is centered around Logan Stankovan and two first-round picks.

12:55 p.m.: The Leafs are on the board, and they’re making a bit of a splash. Toronto is acquiring the former first-round center from the Flyers.

The return, according to Frank Seravalli, is a 2026 conditional first-round pick (the conditions aren’t known at the moment) as well as AHL winger Nikita Grebenkin.

12:53 p.m.: Next up on the move: Seattle’s Brandon Tanev. Winnipeg is also getting him, per reports, sending a second-round pick back to the Kraken.

12:40 p.m.: The Penguins continue their dismantling. Pittsburgh is reportedly sending Luke Schenn to the Winnipeg Jets for a pair of draft picks, including a second-round selection next year.

12:33 p.m.: The floodgates might be opening now that Miko Rantanen reportedly has finally made up his mind. Elliotte Friedman is reporting Rantanen and the Stars have agreed to an eight-year deal worth $12 million annually.

12:15 p.m.: A couple of division rivals have swung the day’s biggest deal of the day, with the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres making a four-player deal official.

Here are the details.

Ottawa acquires: Dylan Cozens, Dennis Gilbert, 2026 second-round pick
Buffalo acquires: Josh Norris, Jacob Bernard-Docker

12:05 p.m.: Quick update on the Andrei Kuzmenko trade — the Kings are reportedly sending a 2027 third-round pick to the Flyers.

Noon: Sounds like there’s a lot of “sounds like” going on right now. First, Elliotte Friedman reports “it sounds like” Andrei Kuzmenko is going from the Flyers to the Kings, as Philly continues its sell-off.

Additionally, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli says it “sounds like trade talks are picking up” for Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.

11:22 a.m.: As if you needed more proof that this is a seller’s market, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ selloff continues with a solid return for Anthony Beauvillier.

The Capitals are one of the Stanley Cup favorites, and they’re trying to maximize their chances by adding the bottom-six forward. It will cost them a second-round pick, per multiple reports.

10:33 a.m.: Very interesting update from TSN’s Darren Dreger regarding a potential contract extension for Mikko Rantanen. The Stars, according to Dreger, would be willing to give Rantaen $12 million per season, if they can work out a trade with the Hurricanes.

10:15 a.m.: Former Bruins forward Ryan Donato was expected to be one of a few players the Blackhawks could look to move ahead of the deadline. Instead, it sounds like he could be in Chicago for the long term.

The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta reported the two sides are working toward a contract extension. If they can’t hammer something out, though, he could be moved before 3 p.m., and the Hawks are also listening to offers for veteran tough guy Pat Marron, per Pagnotaa.

8:30 a.m.: Picking up some more of the pieces from overnight wheeling and dealing, the Colorado Avalanche made a splash while paying a hefty price.

The Avs picked up veteran center Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders. Among the pieces Colorado had to give up was Cal Ritchie, the 2023 first-round pick who might be Colorado’s top prospect, and the Avalanche had to include a first-round pick.

Here’s the full trade:

Colorado receives: Brock Nelson, William Dufour
New York Islanders receive: Cal Ritchie, Oliver Kylington, 2026 first-round pick, conditional 2028 third-round pick

The 33-year-old Nelson is a pending unrestricted free agent. That’s a huge price to pay for a rental, but the Avs have legitimate Stanley Cup aspirations. That return is in line with most of the deals we’ve already seen, though, a market that largely seems to favor sellers.

8 a.m. ET: The NHL trade deadline is here, with the 3 p.m. ET Friday cut-off just hours away. Yet, as has been the case in recent years, teams aren’t exactly taking this thing down to the buzzer.

Thursday night was another big night in the league, and much of it centered around the man at the center of a previous blockbuster earlier this season. If Mikko Rantanen is on the move again, the most likely destination is Dallas. Multiple reports overnight indicated the Stars and Hurricanes had a deal in place, contingent upon Rantanen and Dallas agreeing to a contract extension.

According to the Daily Faceoff’s Frank Serevalli’s reporting Friday morning, that’s still the case. However, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported shortly thereafter there is no longer a deal in place between the two teams, although they may reconvene and find a suitable framework.

Ratanen, of course, started the season with the Colorado Avalanche before the Avs shipped him to the Canes. Carolina hoped to sign the pending unrestricted free agent to an extension, but with that not looking like an option, they’re now willing to move him before 3 p.m.

We’ll be following everything with that deal and all the others — including a possible Brad Marchand blockbuster — throughout the day, so keep it here for the latest rumors, news and analysis.
