The Patriots boosted their defense by signing Carlton Davis with the plan of creating one of the top cornerback duos in the NFL.

New England now has two very good cornerbacks in Davis and 2023 first-round pick Christian Gonzalez.

“Me and Gonzo here, it could be a great tandem. Great duo in the NFL,” Davis said in a team-provided video. “Just the things that he likes to do can really help us tie our strings as far as playing man-to-man and having airtight coverage, but also giving us a chance to switch it up and get our eyes on the quarterback and make plays on the ball.”

The Super Bowl champion is also looking forward to building on his legacy with the Patriots.

“For a personal accolade standpoint, gain enough recognition to get into a Pro Bowl,” Davis said. “But, I also want to be somebody that is remembered here in Foxboro, that people talk about years down the line.

“And they say, ‘He had a great impact on this team and this organization.’ To be able to say that I helped them become champions again.”

Davis won Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 28-year-old veteran said being a championship caliber team starts with being consistent every day.

“It’s definitely a process that you have to do if you want to be a championship team,” he said in the video. “And, you have to go through those tough times and have your brothers’ back to push them.

“I feel like every day at practice, we got to go after it, and then we get to recover and recharge, and then we got to go after it again. It’s going to start in the spring and then carry over to camp, then start with the season, but we got to win those days.”

Davis continued: “We got to win the dog days when we’re tired and nobody wants to work, but we got to go to work and we go to push ourselves, and we go to allow that to become our culture.”
