A championship ring won’t be the only marquee memento Liam Hendriks acquires if the Red Sox win the World Series this season.
Hendriks, who’s set to pitch his first season in Boston after spending the 2024 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery, knows one big way he’ll celebrate if the Red Sox are the last team standing this fall. The veteran relief pitcher shared his plan on NESN’s latest “Unobstructed Views” broadcast Monday night,
“I’ve already got permission from my wife. If we do it, I’m doing the Jake Peavy thing. I’m buying the damn duckboat,” Hendriks told hosts Patrice Bergeron, Tuukka Rask and Andrew Raycroft. “I don’t think it will fit in my parking spot in Beacon Hill, though.”
Hendriks has a chance to play a big role for a 2025 Red Sox team with legitimate playoff aspirations. The three-time All-Star, who has 116 career saves under his belt, is in the mix to be Boston’s closer to open the season.
And if the Red Sox reach the postseason, they could view Hendriks’ experience as a valuable asset for high-stakes baseball. The 36-year-old arrived in Boston after logging a combined 15 2/3 innings worth of playoff appearances between stints with the Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox.
