Baseball often connects superstars of different eras. Spring training is often a great place for that, filled with moments like this week when a staple of the Boston Red Sox in the 21st century paid a visit to camp with the Cincinnati Reds camp.

Dustin Pedroia played parts of six seasons of his Red Sox career for manager Terry Francona, who came out of retirement to take over the helm for the Reds entering this season. Pedroia, who now lives in Arizona, stopped by and checked in with Cincinnati’s star infielder Elly De La Cruz.

You can watch their interaction here.

Pedroia knows what it takes to perform at an All-Star level under Francona, which De La Cruz hopes to continue to do when the Reds take the field in a relatively-open National League Central. The Red Sox icon won American League Rookie of the Year and American League MVP along with a World Series title and three All-Star nods with Francona as his manager in Boston.

Pedroia and Francona both come off eventful years for their Red Sox legacies. Pedroia entered the Red Sox Hall of Fame in the 2024 class while Francona accepted the Baseball Legacy award at “The Tradition” at TD Garden in November shortly after he took the Reds job.
