If they’re all like Thursday’s, Red Sox rookie Kristian Campbell is going to have one wild MLB career.
The 23-year-old made his big league debut on Opening Day in Texas, and it was a day Campbell will remember his entire life. The second baseman picked up his first career hit against the Rangers with his family in attendance and had a front-row seat to a dramatic late-inning Red Sox win.
The vibes were predictably great in the Boston clubhouse after the game. On Friday morning, the Red Sox shared a behind-the-scenes video from the postgame celebration, including Alex Cora presenting Campbell with the lineup card and insisting the rookie give a speech to his teammates.
Campbell sheepishly obliged.
“Well, today was fun. A lot of fun,” Campell said to laughs from his teammates. “You know I was nervous from the get-go, but you guys make it easy to play with. I have a hell of a lot of fun playing with you guys. It’s been a pleasure so far. Let’s keep it going. Let’s keep winning.”
