Kendrick Bourne is all-in on trying to help the Patriots in the upcoming season.

Bourne made that clear when he served as an outspoken recruiter of premier talents for New England. The veteran wide receiver also recently expressed his commitment to the Patriots in a YouTube video of an offseason workout, which included a very boldly worded prediction.

“I’m telling you: This is my year,” Bourne said. “This is my year, I know it. Josh McDaniels, I’m coming. I’m coming to dominate.”

Bourne has never lacked confidence, so those remarks weren’t at all surprising. The problem, however, is that the charismatic pass-catcher might not be long for New England.

That’s not entirely a knock on Bourne, who returned from a torn ACL injury last season and played 12 games for the Patriots. The 29-year-old simply might be the odd man out when Mike Vrabel and company assemble the receiving corps for 2025. Newcomers Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins as well as DeMario Douglas are roster locks, while Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker both are likely to receive second chances after lousy rookie seasons.

Thus, there might only be one receiver spot up for grabs this summer. Such a competition would be headlined by Bourne, Kayshon Boutte and perhaps a rookie receiver drafted later this month. But considering New England can easily cut bait with Bourne — his current contract contains minimal remaining guarantees — the Patriots might do right by the ninth-year pro by releasing him and letting him find a more prosperous opportunity elsewhere.

So, it’s possible Bourne “dominates” this season like he’s predicting. But such success very well could come to fruition outside of Foxboro, Mass.
