The Red Sox locked up Kristian Campbell and gave the top prospect plenty of financial security.

Boston announced Wednesday it signed Campbell to an eight-year contract extension that runs through 2032 and includes club options for 2033 and 2034.

According to multiple reports, the deal guarantees the infielder/outfielder $60 million. Other reports added that the 2033 club option is worth $19 million with a $4 million buyout, and the 2034 option is worth $21 million. Campbell’s contract extension also includes escalators if the 22-year-old wins an American League MVP ($2 million) and if he is named an All-Star ($200,000). That means in total, the contract could be worth $100 million over 10 years.

The reported details of the contract extension offer a nice framework for potential deals in the future, including possibly other members of the “big three:” Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer. It also gave Campbell the financial security he deserves following his three-level rise in the minors last year that led to being named to the Opening Day roster this season.

Campbell’s already impressed this season at the plate and on defense, and he’ll look to prove Boston made the correct investment in him throughout his Red Sox career.
