Daniel Pacheco was given Liverpool’s squad No. 12 and a new contract after winning the Golden Boot at the Under-19 European Championship this past summer. Now, he wants out.
According to Guillem Balague, Roy Hodgson told the 19-year-old Spanish forward that he would be part of the plan at Anfield, but Pacheco has instead made only one league appearance — as a substitute against Manchester City.
“I really want to be here,” Pacheco told Click Liverpool in August, but that sentiment clearly hasn’t held up without nearly any first-team action.
Pacheco qualifies as a “home-grown player” under the league’s rules, and with great talent at just 19 years of age, he is exactly the type of player whom owner John Henry stressed that the team should be looking for as Liverpool builds for the long-term.
La Liga’s Real Sociedad had wanted to take a loan out on the player this past summer, and Benfica, Olympiakos, Genoa and Malaga reportedly had interest as well. Now, Hodgson may not have a chance to loan the European Golden Boy Award candidate at all.
