Nate Robinson's career in New York has largely become an afterthought.
The 24-year-old guard has been riding the bench for nine games since falling out of favor with head coach Mike D'Antoni, right after he was seen fraternizing with Magic center Dwight Howard before a loss to the Magic. It doesn't appear Robinson has any hope of getting out of D'Antoni's doghouse — even afer Howard tried to come to his defense — and now, he wants out of New York.
According to Boston.com, Robinson's agent, Aaron Goodwin, told the New York Times, "I want to do what I can to get Nate out of New York. There's no reason to allow this kid's career to get rotted by what's going on here in New York."
In 74 games last season, Robinson averaged 17.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 29.9 minutes per game. This season, he has played in just 12 games and has tallied 10.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game. He could wait out the rest of the season in the hopes that he may see minimal action at some point, but Goodwin doesn't want that. He wants his client out of New York now — and one possible destination for him could be Boston.
According to ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan, "There's one place the former slam-dunk champion would truly like to land if a trade can be worked out: Boston. … The thinking [is] that he can provide the instant offensive boost … that he once provided for the Knicks."
The Celtics certainly aren't skimping on offense right now — they're not really skimping on anything, actually, not even quality bench players — but it's still an interesting development.
