As Trade Deadline Approaches, Which Player Would You Most Like to See on Red Sox? Just five days remain until the July 31 trade deadline, and many big names remain on the market.

While the Red Sox lineup and pitching staff should be greatly bolstered by the return of many of their stars, adding other great players may be what is necessary to get the team into the playoffs.

The biggest name on the market is Roy Oswalt, who has made his desire to move to a contender clear. Oswalt was linked with Philadelphia last week and more recently has been rumored to be heading to St. Louis. Houston wants minor league prospects for the veteran ace, and Boston sure has a ton of them to offer. The Red Sox rotation, though, already seems strong, as Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz have returned and Daisuke Matsuzaka has pitched very well of late.

One desirable feature of a potential Oswalt acquisition is that he will not be a free agent after this season.

Outfielder Jayson Werth, on the other hand, will be a free agent after 2010. Still, his value is particularly high as he is in the midst of a career year for the Phillies. He has a highly versatile bat as he hits for average, extra-bases, and power and could provide a boost for the suddenly slumping Red Sox offense. On the other hand, do the Red Sox even need another outfielder, especially with Jacoby Ellsbury on his way back?

Like Werth, Prince Fielder will be a free agent after this season and he seems unlikely to stay in Milwaukee. The Brewers, therefore, may look to move Fielder now so that they can get something in return. Simply put, Fielder is an elite power hitter. He is capable of 50 home runs and 140 RBIs year in and year out. A trade for Prince, though, would likely mean that David Ortiz would be on his way out of Boston given that Fielder likely would DH, so that Kevin Youkilis could stay at first base.

So, who which player would you most like to see on the Sox? For Roy Oswalt, text "SOX1" to 542542. If you want to see Prince Fielder, text "SOX2"
to 542542. If you prefer Jayson Werth, text
"SOX3" to 542542.
