Most men, when confronted with a physical altercation, would never in a million years resort to biting another man. That's simply not how men deal with confrontations. It's not very manly.
Yet, a Vancouver columnist thinks Patrice Bergeron isn't manly for taking offense to getting bitten by Alex Burrows.
"Come on, Patrice Bergeron," wrote Cam Cole in The Vancouver Sun. "It's a man's game. Get a tetanus shot, and move on."
It must be noted that the column appears to have been written with a lighthearted tone, but it's unlikely to be read with much pleasure in the Boston area.
"Maybe Alex Burrows had no idea that was your finger in his mouth — it was a 5 o'clock game, the eating patterns were off a little, and he was hungry," Cole wrote. "Maybe he thought it was some sort of hors d'oeuvre, like a cocktail wiener."
ESPN's Bill Simmons tweeted that Cole is an example of "Vancouver homer journalism," to which Cole replied, "I'd have thought someone as clever as [Simmons] would have been able to tell finger-in-mouth from tongue-in-cheek. Evidently not."
Despite extensive video and photographic proof, the NHL ruled Thursday that there was "no conclusive evidence" of biting. Burrows was not punished beyond the four penalty minutes he was given on the ice.
